Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone admits his desire to return to Inter Milan as a coach one day.

The 53-year-old donned the Nerazzurri jersey for three seasons during his playing days, before joining Lazio in 1999.

The Argentine has now cemented himself as one of the most successful managers in the current era, and he’s certainly the highest earner amongst his colleagues.

While his lucrative Atletico Madrid contract runs until 2024, Simeone leaves the door open for a return to Italian football through one of his former clubs: Inter Milan and Lazio.

While he claims that he only has about five years left in the tank, he admits that he would struggle to refrain himself from coaching.

“I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to coach, I’m 53, so perhaps another five years. We certainly have a stressful job,” said the Argentine manager in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“But then I feel that a few days of vacation would be enough to make me want to get back to the pitch again. The lawn is like a drug for us.

“I often meet Inter and Lazio fans who ask me to come back. Who knows? I would certainly like it.”

Simeone’s lone managerial stint in Serie A saw him lead Catania towards a remarkable escape from relegation in 2010/11.

He has been in charge of Atletico Madrid since December 2011, collecting a host of trophies during his time in the Spanish capital, including two La Liga titles, two Europa League triumphs and two UEFA Super Cups.
