Former Liverpool and Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez believes Inter Milan and AC Milan deserve to play in the semifinal of the Champions League due to playing good football.
Benitez stated this whilst on air as a pundit for Italian broadcaster RAI famous show Domenica Sportiva, as reported via Milan based Inter Milan news-site FcInterNews.
The former Inter Milan coach argued that both clubs had played some good football and deserved to be in the latter stages of Europe’s elite club compeititon.
Benitez argued further, that reaching this stage of the Champions League proved that the distance in terms of quality between the top Serie A clubs and the top Premier League clubs has been reduced further.
“Having two Italian teams in the Champions League semifinals is a great achievement. In Italy, it is often said that Italian football is not yet at the level of the Premier League, but Inter and Milan have reached this goal by playing very good matches in the Champions League.
“One of them will reach the final, which is a great result that shows how they are getting closer to the big European teams” Benitez added.
A ‘Spectacular’ Champions League Milan Derby
The fact that one of the Milanese clubs will play in the final of the Champions League is something that makes the former Newcastle and Napoli coach very happy.
“It will be a spectacular match, reaching the final is fantastic for the fans, the players, and the club” Benitez concluded.
AC Milan host Inter Milan in the first leg of the Semifinal of the Champions League tomorrow night, Wednesday the 10th of May, with kick-off scheduled at 21.00 CET.
The return leg is played less than a week later on the 16th of May with Inter as the home team, with kick-off scheduled for 21.00 CET.
