Inter Milan goalkeeper André Onana cherishes his team’s victory over AC Milan in the first leg of the Champions League final, but remains cautious ahead of the return fixture.

The 26-year-old didn’t have an awful lot to do on Wednesday night, as his team was largely the better side in the EuroDerby, especially in the first half.

Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan delivered the early goals, but the Nerazzurri wasted the chance to come away with an ever more significant advantage that the 2-o win.

Therefore, the Cameroonian remains coy about his team’s chances of reaching the final, admitting that Milan remain a dangerous team.

“We started well, we’re now close to the final, but there’s still a long way to go,” admitted Onana in his post-match interview with Sky Sport via FcInterNews.

“We know we’re playing at home but we’ll be up against a very strong team. We did well tonight, for us the most important thing was to come away with a win.

“We won an important match, but Milan remain a great team. We must be very prepared for the return fixture.”

The former Ajax man admits that a goalkeeper must at times push the envelope by holding the ball for additional seconds to allow his teammates to catch their breath.

“These are moments that happen in football, you try to recover and gain at a few more seconds, the team needs time. These are some of the things that you learn over time.

“I’m happy with the win tonight, there’s still a lot at stake but we’re allowed to dream”.

The two Milanese rivals will clash heads in the second leg next Tuesday.
