The unexpected windfall of revenues from reaching the final of the Champions League this season can go some way towards making up for the losses in the balance sheet at Inter Milan.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

The Nerazzurri continue to confront a difficult financial reality.

There is the lack of a big sale made last summer. Following this, the loss of Milan Skriniar on a free transfer certainly comes as a hit.

The Slovakian had been the subject of big money offers from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. Now, Inter will lose Skriniar for nothing to the Parisians and have to replace him.

Moreover, whilst the wage bill has been trimmed last summer with departures of players like Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez, and Ivan Perisic, it is still quite high.

The additions of the salaries of players like Romelu Lukaku and Henrikh Mkhitaryan last summer made sure of that.

Then, there is the situation with shirt sponsor DigitalBits.

The Nerazzurri have not received any of the money owed by the cryptocurrency company for this season’s main shirt sponsorship deal. This has entailed not receiving more than €20 million that had been budgeted for.

It is far from clear how much of that amount the Nerazzurri will ever receive.

UCL Revenues An Unexpected Boost For Financially Stricken Inter Milan

If all of that paints a bleak picture, there is at least the Champions League to lighten things up.

Inter had hardly expected to reach the final of Europe’s top club competition.

In truth, the only earnings that were taken for granted from the competition were those from the group stage.

Therefore, the more than €100 million earned for reaching the final has gone some way towards easing Inter’s financial burdens.

That is before gate receipt revenues from knockout clashes with Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan are taken into consideration.
