The status of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar for the Champions League final against Man City will be known this week.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that this week’s training should reveal whether or not Skriniar can return from injury.

Skriniar’s readiness for the Champions League final in Istanbul next month is still a bit up in the air.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi was coy on the matter yesterday evening. The 47-year-old confirmed that Skriniar will be back in training soon.

The 28-year-old Slovakian international could even be in the squad as early as next weekend’s Serie A match against Torino.

Inzaghi has already stated that he expects this is a possibility.

This is a different matter, however, from Skriniar being fully match-fit and ready before the end of the season.

Milan Skriniar Fitness Still Up In The Air For Man City Clash

The former Sampdoria defender is recovering from lumbar spine surgery. Even if he does return to training soon, it will be a race against time to get up to speed for a hugely demanding match against a team like City.

Now, therefore, the coming week should be decisive in seeing whether Skriniar is ready one way or the other.

Skriniar will return to training with the rest of the group within the next few days.

This will not take place today or tomorow as Inzaghi has given the players a couple days off.

However, within a few days, Skriniar should be back in full training. This will quickly make apparent whether the Slovakian is ready to get back to match-fitness, or whether the after-effects of his injury and surgery are still holding him back.
