Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko remains the favourite to start in attack alongside Lautaro Martinez in the Champions League final against Man City despite the blistering form of Romelu Lukaku in Serie A.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Bosnian is still likely to start in Istanbul.

In recent matches, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has used a clear policy of rotation.

In Serie A matches, Lukaku has tended to be the man to start ahead of Dzeko. Then, in knockout matches, Dzeko is the one to take the reins.

However, Lukaku wants to upend that order.

The Belgian has been in blazing form in the league for several weeks now. Nevertheless, he has yet to displace Dzeko, who has started every knockout match in the Coppa Italia and Champions League.

Edin Dzeko Still Likely To Start Vs Man City Over Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku may want to use the last Serie A match of the season against Torino to earn a starting place in the Champions League final.

However, for the time being at least, things remain the same as ever.

Dzeko is the striker who is favourite to start against his old team Manchester City.

The 37-year-old, who joined Inter from Roma in the summer of 2021, has always been trusted in big knockout matches. Moreover, Dzeko has frequently repaid his coach’s faith.

Dzeko’s performance against AC Milan in the Champions League semifinal first leg certainly vindicated his selection.

Accordingly, Tuttosport report, the Bosnian is still likely to start in the final against City.

Even Lukaku’s outstanding form in Serie A, where he has scored at a rate of virtually a goal a game has not been enough to change this.

The Belgian is likely to begin on the bench. He will then have the chance to come on as a substitute.
