Former Inter Milan striker Nicola Ventola feels that Romelu Lukaku must be in the starting eleven for next month’s Champions League final against Man City.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, via FCInter1908, Ventola argued that the Belgian is the in-form striker and should be given a chance against the Cityzens, and also that Inter’s best chance of winning the final would come if they play mainly on the counterattack.

The question of who starts in attack for Inter on June 10 remains as open as ever.

Whilst it seems all but a foregone conclusion that Lautaro Martinez will start the match, it’s less certain who’ll start alongside him.

The form of Lukaku in recent Serie A matches would seem to make him impossible to ignore. On the other hand, Dzeko has proven reliable in the big knockout matches this season.

Reports currently suggest that the Bosnian is ahead of the Belgian to start. However, it looks to be a real doubt for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

The coach will still have almost two weeks in which to make up his minds.

For his part, former Nerazzurri striker Adani feels that the coach should give the nod to Lukaku.

Ventola: Inter Should Start Romelu Lukaku Vs Man City

Looking ahead to the final, Ventola said that “I hope Inter win, but for the sake of superstition I’ll say City do.”

He continued that “I hope to Inter play a match where they defend deep in their half. I don’t think we should give space for them to attack, and we have to look for the counterattack.”

Ventola then continued that “I’ll give my honest opinion. I’d have Lukaku play, because he’s in good form and he’s very good on the counterattack.”

“In my opinion, Inter will play a counterattacking style of play,” he added.
