Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his team could’ve done more against Liverpool last season in the Champions League.
Speaking to InterTV, via FCInterNews, the coach then noted that now the Nerazzurri are ready to play in European club football’s biggest match, a marker of the growth that they’ve made.
Last season, Inter made it to the round of sixteen in the Champions League.
This had already marked plenty of progress. However, they were unable to get any further, with eventual finalists Liverpool standing in their way.
This season, however, the story is different. Inter have gotten not just past the round of sixteen, but all the way to the final. And next Saturday, they’ll have the opportunity to go all the way.
Inter Coach Inzaghi: Could’ve Done Even Better Vs Liverpool Last Season
“Our journey in the cup competitions has been perfect, that’s clear,” Inzaghi said.
“What I said last year comes to mind, because I would’ve liked to replay the sixteen against Liverpool,” the coach continued. “Because in my opinion, the team could have done better last season.”
“Although obviously we had a lot of room for improvement.”
Of the Nerazzurri’s win over Torino yesterday evening, Inzaghi said that “We played a serious, organized match against a top-quality team.”
“I wanted to consolidate our position in the table, we owed it to the club and to our fans who all followed us en masse today,” he added.
Inzaghi said of the Champions League final against Manchester City that “Saturday’s match will be our 57th of the season, and the most important.”
“We head to Istanbul with a few defeats behind us which maybe hurt us at the moment, but which made us grow and improve.”
“The boys did great, they deserve credit because it’s to be expected that their focus will be Saturday. But they still played well and honoured this match.”
