Veteran Real Madrid defender Nacho has rejected a contract offer from Inter Milan, and will stay at Real Madrid and become club captain, inheriting the armband from Los Blancos legend Karim Benzema.
This according to Spanish news outlet AS, via FCInterNews, who report that the 33-year-old will extend his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
In the last week or so, veteran Real Madrid defender Nacho has been strongly linked with Inter.
The Nerazzurri have reportedly offered the 33-year-old a three-year contract to join ahead of next season.
Inter are preparing to reinforce their defense during the summer transfer window. Apart from the fact that Milan Skriniar is leaving, the situations of all of Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi, and Danilo D’Ambrosio are also up in the air.
Accordingly, the Nerazzurri have been gearing up to look for suitable targets to potentially bolster their backline.
Veteran Real defender Nacho is one player who’s come onto the Nerazzurri’s radar.
This is perhaps not surprising given Inter CEO Beppe Marotta’s penchant for hunting down free transfer opportunities. Nacho is an experienced defender with multiple Champions League trophies under his belt. In this sense he would certainly represent a big opportunity at no cost.
As things stand, the 33-year-old’s current deal runs out at the end of the current month.
Nacho To Reject Inter Milan & Replace Karim Benzema As Real Madrid Captain
Alas, AS report, Inter are going to miss out on Nacho.
Real have convinced the Spaniard to stay in the capital.
Nacho, who has only ever played for Real and has made over a hundred appearances for the youth team in addition to over three hundred senior appearances, is ready to sign a new deal and stay on.
Benzema has left Real. The Frenchman has announced that he won’t extend his contract which expires at the end of this month.
Given that Benzema has been wearing the armband since Sergio Ramos left, Real need a new captain.
According to AS, that captain will be Nacho.
