Legendary former Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder is hoping that the Champions League final against Man City can end like the one against Bayern Munich 2010.
Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, the Dutchman expressed the hope that the Nerazzurri can win the competition again.
Inter will be looking back to 2010 as they think about the possibility of getting their hands on European club football’s biggest prize.
That was the last time that the Nerazzurri finished at the top of the pile in European football.
In 2010, Inter had a very formidable Bayern Munich team in front of them in the final. However, they managed to overcome the Bavarians, keeping a clean sheet and relying on two goals from Diego Milito.
This time around, Inter perhaps have an even more imposing opponent standing in their way.
This Mancheseter City team are perhaps the strongest in all of Europe, something they’ve proven throughout both the Champions League and another dominant Premier League campaign.
Inter Icon Wesley Sneijder: Let’s Hope Man City Showdown Ends Same Way As Man City Showdown
Legendary former midfielder Sneijder played a crucial role throughout the 2009-10 European Treble campaign for Inter.
The Dutchman still has strong memories of what it took for Inter to win the Champions League.
Sneijder made 41 appearances across all competitions during that season, his first in an Inter shirt. The Dutchman scored eight goals.
In the Champions League specifically, Sneijder made eleven appearances and scored three goals. Among these was a crucial goal against Barcelona in the semifinals.
In 2010, Sneijder and his teammates went all the way, taking the final step in the final against Bayern.
This Inter team are yet to make that final step. However, in two days’ time against Manchester City, they will have the chance to do just that.
Asked if he thinks that this can be like 2010, Sneijder replied “Let’s hope so! Forza Inter!”
