Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is proud of what his team have done in the Champions Legaue despite losing the final to Man City.

Speaking in a press conference after the final, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri coach gave his immediate reaction.

Inter will not be heading back to Milan as the champions of Europe.

The team gave a good account of themselves in the final against Manchester City. However, it was not enough.

A second half goal by City midfielder Rodri and a number of missed chances by the Nerazzurri made sure of this.

However, it was a performance of which Inzaghi is proud. And, moreover, the coach feels that the team’s entire season in the Champions League is a source of pride.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi: Proud Of The Team

Inzaghi noted that “We hadn’t reached the round of sixteen in a very long time, and then last season we we came up against Liverpool.”

“And I would have gladly played the second leg again,” he added. “I had already seen that this team could have done more without thinking about the last twelve years.”

“The team has grown, acquired mentality, experience,” Inzaghi said. “We’ll try to go again with as much pride as we did this season and last.”

“We met Real Madrid and Liverpool who played for the final and in 4 matches they didn’t put us down.”

“I’m proud of the progress made by these players,” the Inter coach said. “And of how they interpreted this match against City.”

“The whole world said that City deserved it, I told the guys that it would be a very balanced match, decided on one moment.”

“We had to be good and lucky to win it, but that’s how it went,” he added.

Inzaghi Admits That Defeat Stings

Asked if there’s regret, Inzaghi lamented that “It’s only right for there to be, defeat is the worst thing in sport.”

“The guys are disappointed, but they have to be proud of the match that they played.”

“We didn’t deserve to lose,” the Inter coach continued. “We were up against against a great opponent, but they faced a great Inter who played a great final.”

And asked for a message to the Inter fans, Inzaghi said that “They’re like my people, I want to embrace each one, one by one.”

“They’re amazing,” he said of the fans. “We’ve had good times, not so good, but they’ve always been there, and it would have been wonderful for us to share this trophy with them against the strongest team in the world.”
