Hertha Berlin forward Dodi Lukebakio is keen on making a move to Inter Milan this summer, with his club asking for a €10 million fee.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
This season, Hertha have suffered relegation from the Bundesiga.
The Berlin-based side’s campaign has been a disastrous one, with them finishing rock bottom of the German top flight table.
However, for forward Lukebakio it’s been a strong campaign on an individual level.
The Belgian has scored eleven goals in 32 league appearances across the season. He has also scored once in one appearance in the German Cup.
Clearly, it looks unlikely that Lukebakio will stick around at Hertha now that they will be playing in the second division next season.
Hertha Berlin Star Dodi Lukebakio Keen On Inter Milan Move
Inter are likely to have to sign at least one forward during the summer transfer window.
This is because Joaquin Correa will almost certainly leave the club. Edin Dzeko is also on the way out.
Argentine international and former Sevilla star Correa has never really established himself at the Nerazzurri since joining from Lazio in the summer of 2021. The club’s intention is therefore to shift him on.
Inter have a few targets in mind to potentially replace Correa.
Tigre and Italy striker Mateo Retegui is foremost among the Nerazzurri’s targets. 26-year-old Spezia star M’Bala Nzola is also reportedly on their radar.
However, the Nerazzurri’s priority as far as replacing Correa is a fairly like-for-like replacement in terms of a profile. They want a player who is proficient at dribbling in one-on-one situation.
That does not particularly describe Retegui. However, Lukebakio is very much a potential option in this regard.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina and Villarreal are also keen on the Hertha striker. However, the player’s preference is to join Inter according to Sky.
Arsenal and USMNT starlet Folarin Balogun is another target in attack for Inter. However, the Gunners want €40 million for the American.
By contrast, Hertha’s relegation and the fact that Lukebakio’s contract runs out at the end of next June means he’ll only cost around €10 million.
Lukebakio has also played for Wolfsburg and Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga. He’s also had a brief stint with Watford in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, the Belgian has made eight appearances for his senior national team. He started the Red Devils’ 1-1 EURO 2024 qualifying draw against Austria.
