Man United could drop their pursuit of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana due to FFP making it financially prohibitive to afford him.

This according to UK news outlet The Mirror. The outlet reports that the Red Devils don’t want to commit too much of their transfer budget to a move for the Cameroonian.

Manchester United have been seriously considering a move for Onana. The Premier League giants have lined the 27-year-old up as the ideal replacement for David De Gea as first-choice goalkeeper.

Reportedly, United coach Erik Ten Hag wants De Gea out and is keen to replace the Spaniard with a keeper who is more proficient with the ball at his feet.

Ten Hag has worked with Onana before. The pair spent several seasons together at Ajax before each left last summer to join United and Inter respectively.

Inter are by all reports ready to listen to offers for Onana. However, the Nerazzurri have made clear that there will be no discount prices for the keeper.

If United want to snatch Onana, they must pay up.

FFP Forces Man United To Move On From Inter Keeper Andre Onana

This, The Mirror reports, is where the problem lies for United.

The Red Devils are working within the constraints of Financial Fair Play for what they can spend this summer.

Their budget for the window cannot exceed a certain amount. The Mirror report that United have already allocated £60 million out of a £120 million to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

Now, a move for Onana would be all but impossible.

Inter are holding out for a fee that would take up virtually the rest of the Red Devils’ budget. Moreover, United have yet to make significant sales this summer.

Accordingly, The Mirror report, United are ready to move on.

They have identified Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp as possible alternative targets to Onana.
