Inter Milan and Roma are ready to go head-to-head for the signing of midfielder Davide Frattesi.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that AC Milan have all but dropped out of the race for the 23-year-old’s signature, leaving the Nerazzurri and the Giallorossi as the main candidates.

Frattesi is still one of the hot names on the transfer market in Serie A this summer. However, as of yet, it is still far from clear where the Italian international will go.

Inter, for their part, are still very much keen. Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta has long planned to fund a deal for Frattesi with a sale for Marcelo Brozovic.

Brozovic is on the verge of joining Al-Nassr after a week of dramatic negotiations.

However, the fee of €17.5 million, potentially rising to €20 million with add-ons, will not necessarily be enough to allow Inter to move for Frattesi right away, even with the inclusion of Samuele Mulattieri in the deal.

Not only is the fee not quite as high as Inter had hoped to receive for Brozovic (€23 million). Sassuolo are also holding out for a price of €40 million to sell Frattesi.

Roma Ready To Try & Move Ahead Of Inter Milan To Sign Davide Frattesi

One club who could try and bring a deal for Frattesi within reach financially is Roma.

Crucially, the Giallorossi have a 30% sell-on clause for the midfielder. This means that they can deduct €12 million from the €40 million asking price.

Moreover, Roma have already sold two young players to Sassuolo this summer.

The combined fees for midfielder Cristian Volpato and right-back Filippo Missori have been around €10 million.

Accordingly, the Giallorossi could well invest that money right back into a deal for Frattesi.

On the other hand, the Corriere report, Milan’s interest in Frattesi is not overly serious.

The Rossoneri are prioritizing other targets to replace Sandro Tonali.
