Inter Milan and Juventus are ready to go head-to-head to sign Monza wingback Carlos Augusto ahead of next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 24-year-old is a major target for both of the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri.

Inter would only likely move for Augusto on one condition.

That would be the departure of Robin Gosens.

Currently, both of Gosens and Federico Dimarco are in the Nerazzurri’s squad. Signing a third left-wingback would hardly be a priority as long as the pair are both sticking around.

However, if Gosens were to depart, then Inter will seek a replacement for the 28-year-old German international. They would need a backup option for Dimarco.

Union Berlin are seriously targeting Gosens as a reinforcement for the Champions league.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest are all reportedly also interested in signing the former Atalanta man.

Not Just Inter – Juventus Also Keen On Signing Carlos Augusto

Inter are not the only big Serie A club with Monza star Augusto on their radar, however.

According to the Corriere, the Nerazzurri’s rivals Juventus are also big fans of the Brazilian.

As with Inter, a pursuit of Augusto would be linked to potential exits from Juventus.

There is currently some uncertainty on the Bianconeri’s right flank.

Veteran Alex Sandro is still at the club, though he may not be when the transfer window closes. Meanwhile, Andre Cambiaso is back after his loan with Bologna last season, but his future is currently up in the air.

In any event, if Juventus were to make space in the right-back position, Augusto would become a target for them.

Therefore, it may be a “Derby d’Italia” transfer battle. And the outcome may come down to which of the team makes sales in Augusto’s position first.
