Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta feels that legendary former Nerazzurri midfielder Luis Suarez can stand as a great example for young players.

Speaking to reporters outside the iconic former midfielder’s funeral, as reported by FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri executive looked back on the inspiration that Suarez provided, and also that of the 1960s “Grande Inter” team that he was at the heart of.

On Sunday, former Inter, Barcelona, and Sampdoria midfielder Suarez passed away.

In the form of the Spaniard, football loses one of its iconic players.

Suarez had been one of the central figures of the great “Grande Inter” team of the 1960s. He played a crucial role in the Nerazzurri winning the European Cup twice under Helenio Herrera.

Football has lost one of its great former players. And Inter in particular feel the loss of a man who brought a great deal of success to the club.

Not only was Suarez an excellent player on the pitch. He had already shown that for several seasons with Barcelona, and added a touch of class to the Nerazzurri’s midfield.

But the Spaniard also formed a lifelong bond with Inter that endured long after he hung up his boots. Suarez had three spells as Inter coach, and was also close with the club and its directors long after.

Marotta Remembers Inter Milan Legend Luis Suarez

“I hope that his legacy can be an inspiration for our players, and in particular for our youngsters,” Marotta said of Suarez. “Not just him, but also Grande Inter.”

“They achieved incredible things in the game,” he noted. “But not just that, they also showed the kinds of personal values that are at the basis of all sporting success.”

“They demonstrated a great sense of belonging, humility, and courage,” Marotta added.

“I hope that our young players can admire what these great players of the past like Luisito Suarez achieved.”
