Inter Milan have announced the extension of the contract of Christian Chivu as their Primavera (Under-19) team’s coach.

The club made the extension of the Romanian’s tenure until the end of next June official in an announcement on their official site, confirming that he’ll stay another season at the helm.

42-year-old former Nerazzurri and Roma defender Chivu has been in charge of Inter’s Primavera team since the summer of 2021.

He replaced former Primavera coach Armando Madonna.

The former defender had had an association with Inter during his playing days. Chivu spent a total of six seasons playing for the Nerazzurri between 2007 and 2013.

During that time, Chivu made a total of 168 appearances for the club. He scored three goals in the process.

Chivu was also an important part of the Nerazzurri team that won the European Treble in the 2009-10 season.

Prior to joining Inter, Chivu had also starred for both Ajax and then Roma.

It was from the Giallorossi that Chivu joined Inter as a player.

After hanging up his boots as a player, Chivu stayed in football. The Romanian also maintained his association with the Nerazzurri.

Chivu took charge of Inter’s youth teams at various age groups.

When Madonna left as Primavera coach in the summer of 2021, this opened the door for Chivu. He made the step up to the most advanced age group in the Nerazzurri’s youth system.

Chivu has done well in his role.

In terms of bringing young players through, the Romanian as overseen the growth of players like Giovanni Fabbian and Cesare Casadei.

Moreover, the Primavera team won the Under-19 Scudetto during his first season in charge, the 2021-22 campaign.

Chivu has even been linked as a possible caretaker coach for Inter’s first team if Simone Inzaghi had been sacked last season.

Now, the club have officially extended his contract.
