Former Nerazzurri goalkeeper Sebastien Frey believes that whilst Yann Sommer brings experience, the loss of Andre Onana hurts Inter Milan.

Speaking to Italian news outlet ItaSportPress, via FCInterNews, Frey gave his thoughts on what the incoming goalkeeping change will mean for the Nerazzurri next season.

As of yet, nothing is official.

Andre Onana is still an Inter player, even training with the club today. And Yann Sommer is still at Bayern Munich.

However, all reports suggest that things are moving fast as far as moves for the pair.

The Nerazzurri look to be on the verge of selling Onana to Manchester United. And then, once they do, it should not be long before Sommer arrives as his replacement for next season.

For his part, former Inter keeper Frey is a fan of Sommer, but doesn’t feel that the 34-year-old can fully make up for the loss of Onana.

Frey: Yann Sommer Cannot Fully Replace Andre Onana At Inter Milan

Asked if he expects Onana’s departure to weaken Inter, Frey replied “On a technical level, yes.”

‘There are no other goalkeepers around who are like him,” he said of the Cameroonian. “Even in terms of hist leadership, the Nerazzurri are losing a lot.”

“But on a financial level, it’s a good deal for Inter, that also needs to be taken into consideration.”

Of Sommer, Frey said that “He’s convincing to me, I think he’s the kind of goalkeeper with the kind of international profile and experience that Inter need.”

Of Inter’s summer transfer window on the whole so far, Frey said that “It’s true that Onana and Brozovic have left, but the spine of last season has remained.”

“If the Nerazzurri don’t drop off for any months like last season, I think they can fight for the Scudetto until the end.”

Frey argued that “Frattesi is also an excellent player – he’s a midfielder for the present and the future.”

Of new Inter striker Marcus Thuram, Frey said that “I’m very curious to see him in Serie A. Tactically, the issue could be his compatibility with Lautaro Martinez.”

“But I still have a lot of curiosity about seeing him get to work, and how he does.”

Regarding Romelu Lukaku, Frey said that “There’s no doubt that he’s an excellent striker, decisive. However, it looks like Chelsea have opened up a real bidding war to sell him.”

“Now I think it will be a question of whether a deal for him is worth it financially for Inter,” he added.
