Inter Milan have set an ultimatum to sign Yann Sommer from Bayern Munich while David De Gea remains the alternative option.

The Nerazzurri have just sold Andre Onana to Man United. The Red Devils have officially announced the transfer of the Cameroonian on Thursday.

This leaves the Beneamata short of options between the sticks. The club has already parted ways with legendary captain Samir Handanovic following the expiry of his contract at the end of the season.

Therefore, Inter are now keen to complete the signing of at least one new custodian as soon as possible.

But while Inter have reached an agreement with Sommer over personal terms, Bayern aren’t willing to release him at the moment.

As we reported yesterday, the Bavarians were looking to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as a replacement. However, the talks between the parties have collapsed.

Therefore, the Bundesliga champions can ill afford to sell Sommer, especially with Manuel Neuer still recovering from a lengthy injury.

So according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the Nerazzurri have set an ultimatum to sign the Swiss goalkeeper.

The Italians have asked Bayern for a definitive answer by Sunday or at most by the start of next week.

If the answer is negative, Inter would have to resort to alternative solutions. This includes David De Gea who left Man United as a free agent after 12 years of service.

But as the source explains, Sommer remains the more convincing option for the Nerazzurri.

Inter will be looking to pay a fee closer to 4 million euros rather than triggering the release clause (6M).
