Former Inter Milan star Nicola Berti admits that Romelu Lukaku has committed a massive mistake. However, he’d be willing to welcome him back to the club on certain conditions.

The Belgian striker spent the last campaign on loan at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. The Nerazzurri were working on securing a permanent transfer from Chelsea.

However, the Beneamata discovered that the 30-year-old was simultaneously negotiating with Juventus. This dates back to the Champions League final or even prior to it.

For his part, Berti describes the striker’s demeanor as unsettling and unacceptable.

Nevertheless, the 56-year-old urges the club and the supporters to forgive the Belgian player if he recognizes his mistakes and offers an apology.

“Lukaku ‘s behavior was unsettling, surprising and unacceptable for anyone who cares about Inter,” said the retired midfielder in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“But I’m also a pragmatic guy. If he takes a step back, I’d be willing to forgive him.”

“You make mistakes in life. He made a big howler, but I won’t close the door on him.”

Berti was an Italian midfielder who made 39 caps with the senior national team, scoring three goals in the process.

He plied his trade at Inter Milan for ten years, between 1988 and 1998. He also had spells at Parma, Fiorentina and Tottenham Hotspur.
