Cagliari striker Leonardo Pavoletti feels that there is more than a little bit of similarity between Gaetano Oristanio and Federico Bernardeschi.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old used former Juventus and Fiorentina winger Bernareschi for the 20-year-old Inter-owned midfielder.

Cagliari have brought in Inter midfielder Oristanio on loan for the upcoming season.

The Sardinians will hope to use the young attacking midfielder’s talents to their advantage as they aim to keep their place in Serie A after achieving promotion last season.

Cagliari beat out the likes of Genoa and Frosinone to sign Oristanio. The 20-year-old had shone across two seasons in the Netherlands with Volendam and now he’s getting his chance in Serie A.

This will be a big step up for Oristanio.

Whilst the Nerazzurri-owned midfielder has already proven what he’s capable of in the Eredivisie, now he’s taking another step.

But from the perspective of veteran striker Pavoletti, it’s important to put faith in players like Oristanio.

He feels that the quality is there in the 20-year-old. And he is hoping that the Rossoblu can nurture that ability under Claudio Ranieri and bring it to the next level.

Pavoletti said that “Pavoletti is a player with a real wand of a left foot.”

“He reminds me a lot of Bernareschi in that way,” the striker added.

Pavoletti then said that “It’s important that we put our trust in young players like that. Italian football has been losing its identity a bit lately.”

Ranieri’s Cagliari achieved promotion to Serie A via winning the Serie B promotion playoffs last season.

The Rossoblu defeated Bari in the two-legged final to bounced straight back after they dropped down in the 2021-22 campaign.
