Bayern Munich Ex-President Uli Hoeness has made clear that as far as he’s concerned Inter Milan target Yann Sommer can leave if he wants to.

Speaking to reporters, via FCInter1908, the Bayern Ex-President stressed that the German champions won’t stand in the 34-year-old’s way.

Currently, Sommer looks to be Inter’s main target to replace Andre Onana this summer.

The Swiss international has a release clause of €6 million in his contract. Therefore, the Nerazzurri could theoretically just pay that amount and sign the player.

Moreover, Sommer by all accounts wants the move. Reports have even suggested that the former Borussia Monchengladbach keeper has been absent from training as he aims to see the transfer get over the line sooner rather than later.

But it’s not quite that simple.

First, Inter are hoping to pay less than the full release clause to sign Sommer. Therefore, they are still aiming to work out an agreement with Bayern rather than go over the Bavarians’ heads.

Moreover, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer is still out injured. Therefore, if Sommer departs, the German champions would be at least temporarily without a starting-quality keeper.

Bayern have not yet signed a replacement for Sommer.

Hoeness Says That Yann Sommer Is Free To Leave Bayern Munich

Addressing Sommer’s situation, Bayern Ex-President Hoeness said that “He can leave if he wants to.”

“It depends on how we deal with it,” he added.

“We’ve already talked about it. We’ve been open with him.”

At the moment, Inter are on their preseason tour without a starting-quality keeper themselves. The sale of Andre Onana as well as the departure of Samir Handanovic have made sure of that.

Therefore, time is starting to be of the essence in Inter’s pursuit of Sommer.

The sense is that the deal will happen sooner or later. But the timing and the fee could come down to the stances of both Inter and Bayern.
