Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez has been offered to Inter Milan, who only see the Argentine as a backup target to Yann Sommer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who also report that the Nerazzurri would only consider a deal for the World Cup winner if it is at a low enough fee.

Yesterday, a report emerged from Argentine media that Inter had made an offer for Martinez.

According to the Corriere, however, that is not quite true. Instead, it is the player and his entourage who have made a proposal to the Nerazzurri.

The 30-year-old Argentine international would be interested in making the switch.

Whilst Villa have enjoyed a real surge in form under Unai Emery over the second half of last season, earning themselves a place in the Europa Conference League, a move to the Nerazzurri would given Martinez the chance to play Champions League football.

In any event, Inter would only be interested in a deal for Martinez under a couple conditions.

Inter Only Considering Emi Martinez As A Backup Option To Yann Sommer

First of all, there is the fact that Inter’s primary target remains the same keeper it has been for weeks now.

Inter are still trying to get over the finish line in their efforts to sign Yann Sommer from Bayern Munich.

The 34-year-old is the man who the Nerazzurri have lined up to replace Andre Onana. And whilst Bayern are insisting on keeping hold of Sommer whilst they sort out their own goalkeeping situation, it looks only a matter of time.

Therefore, unless Inter were to miss out on Sommer, they would not have any desire to move for Martinez.

Moreover, there is the matter of the fee on a deal.

Yesterday’s report from Argentine media indicated that the Nerazzurri have already offered €15 million for Martinez.

According to the Corriere, there is little substance to this. Nor is there any truth to the idea that Inter would go even higher than that amount.

Inter have a fairly well-established strategy in terms of what they want to invest in a goalkeeper.

One way or the other, Martinez doesn’t likely fall within their parameters.

Villa will demand at least €30 million to sell their first-choice goalkeeper. Therefore, Inter would likely not go far in talks with the Premier League team.
