Inter Milan Could Still Make Shock U-Turn Regarding Chelsea Star

Inter Milan could still make a shock u-turn regarding Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku this summer.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who argue that it would be foolish to entirely rule out the Nerazzurri reconciling with the Belgian, particularly if their other striker targets do not pan out.

At the moment, the situation in the fallout between Inter and Lukaku looks clear.

Regardless of what the player wants, Inter are determined to take a different path.

The Nerazzurri directors were strongly angered and bewildered by Lukaku’s antics as the 30-year-old held negotiations with Juventus behind their back, all the while they were trying to reach an agreement on a transfer with Chelsea.

So this would seem to be the end of the story. Inter have made up their mind and are well on their way to try and sign a different striker.

But, Tuttosport suggests, that might not be how things end up.

Inter Milan U-Turn On Lukaku Not Outside The Realm Of Possibility

Central to Tuttosport’s argument is that Inter do still need a striker.

The Nerazzurri have already lined up their main targets in the wake of the collapse of their Lukaku chase.

Names like Folarin Balogun, Alvaro Morata, and Gianluca Scamacca are on Inter’s shortlist.

Apart from these, Beto and Mehdi Taremi have also emerged as candidates.

But the simple fact is that none of these deals are certain to happen.

Inter are still facing the tricky situation of looking for a striker who isn’t a drop-off from Lukaku. And the club’s financial situation means that they can only spend so much doing so.

If the Nerazzurri decide that the asking prices are too high for their targets, or the players simply not worth it, they could rethink their strategy.

And there, Tuttosport, would be an opening for an improbable return to the table for Lukaku.

There’s no doubt that mending the relationship with the Belgian would be difficult. Inter may well even find the prospect distasteful.

But perhaps in the back of everyone’s mind at Inter, there’s a certain awareness – if they need a striker, they know one place to go. Lukaku could still be waiting for them.
