Ex-Inter Milan goalkeeper Sebastien Frey believes that Romelu Lukaku and Simone Inzaghi had a major argument at the end of last season.
Speaking to Italian news outlet Calciomeracto.it, the Frenchman claimed that he has heard that an argument between the pair was a big part of the rift between Inter and Lukaku.
The dramatic soap opera between Inter and Lukaku has been a source of some confusion.
Outwardly everything always seemed clear – the Nerazzurri always wanted to bring the Belgian back. And the player only wanted Inter.
So the revelation that Lukaku had been negotiating with Juventus behind Inter’s back came as a real shock. And then the fact that the Nerazzurri were so outraged that they pulled the plug on talks was a further unexpected development.
There has been plenty of speculation that Lukaku’s annoyance at not starting in key matches last season was key to his reasoning.
Despite the fact that Inzaghi has always seemingly been keen to have Lukaku in his team, he often favoured Edin Dzeko last season.
Frey Reveals Rift Between Lukaku & Inzaghi At Inter Milan
Frey said that “I’ve been told that before the end of the season, there was a big blow-up between Inzaghi and the Belgian, and that was the reason for the rift.”
He added that “I think there are two paths for him now. Juventus or Saudi Arabia.”
Frey also gave his thoughts on Inter’s goalkeeping target Yann Sommer.
“I could see him doing well at Inter,” he said of the Swiss.
“I would imagine that with Neuer’s situation, Bayern would be reluctant to lose hold of him right away,” he added.
Then the former keeper argued that “With Audero and Musso, I think they’d be better off at a club like Fiorentina. I don’t know if they’re ready for a club who compete at the very top just yet.”
Frey also argued that “I think it would be worth making a sacrifice to afford Trubin. Inter need to sign two keepers.”
