Milan Mayor: New Stadium Can’t Be Built Next To Current Stadium In San Siro Area

Milan Mayor Beppe Sala insists that Inter Milan and AC Milan cannot build a new stadium directly next to the San Siro.

Speaking to reporters whilst attending the CONI National Council meeting, as reported by FCInterNews, the Milan Mayor also stated that he expects a decision on whether or not there will be an injunction against demolishing the San Siro soon.

Inter and Milan’s plans to build a new stadium to build a new stadium to replace the San Siro are hanging on by a thread.

The two clubs have been attempting to get things moving for several years now. But instead of the delays easing up, they have been more of a problem than ever.

The final nail of the coffin for the club’s plans could be an injunction against demolishing the San Siro.

The Superintendency should decide in the near future whether or not to grant the injunction. If they were to decide in favour of it, it would come into effect in 2025, the seventieth anniversary of the construction of the stadium’s second tier.

If Inter and Milan cannot demolish the existing stadium, they’ll have to come up with other plans.

Reports suggest that the clubs will likely build on their own. The Rossoneri in particular are keen on this course of action.

But one place that neither club can build, Sala believes, is directly next to the existing stadium in the San Siro district.

Regarding a decision on a possible injunction, Sala said that “We’re expecting a major response in the coming days.”

“That will come from the Superintendency telling us whether there are restrictions on the San Siro, and if so what kind.”

“That will be vitally important,” the Mayor said. “Because while I’m open to anything, I would be extremely cautious about building a new stadium right next to the San Siro.”

“”That would mean subjecting the residents of the area to more than two hundred days a year worth of events,” he noted.
