Davide Frattesi reveals that he had already set his sights on a transfer to Inter Milan a year and a half ago.

The 23-year-old spent some time in the youth academies of Lazio and Roma before signing for Sassuolo in 2017.

Following a series of loan spells in Serie B, the Italian managed to cement himself as a pillar in Alessio Dionisi’s squad over the past two seasons. He also became a regular feature in Roberto Mancini’s national team.

Frattesi’s impressive displays sparked an intense race for his services earlier this summer. But it was the Nerazzurri who emerged victorious.

Inter managed to put the player’s signature on paper earlier this month. He joins on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Nonetheless, Frattesi insists that he had already made his choice to join Inter almost 18 months ago.

“I had no doubt in my mind. I only wanted Inter,” says the Italian midfielder in an interview with Corriere della Sera via FcInterNews.

“While on vacation, I kept calling my agent to find out if there were any updates. I remained calm, but perhaps not entirely.

“I was convinced that this is the right project for me. I had already discussed it with my national teammates. I decided it 18 months ago.”

Frattesi avoided making any speculations regarding the future of his former Sassuolo teammate Gianluca Scamacca.

“I avoided adding myself to the list of people who asked him where he’s going. Let’s talk about something else. But, of course, if we were to play together, I’d be happy.”

On another note, Frattesi has no problem switching to the left side of the midfield trio in order to play in the same formation with Nicolo Barella.

“Position problems with Barella? No. If I have to move the left, there will be no problem at all.”
