Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi reminds everyone of how hard he and the club worked to bring back Romelu Lukaku to Italy last summer.

Following a memorable first spell at the Giuseppe Meazza, the Belgian completed a mega-money switch to Chelsea.

However, he soon grew frustrated with the lack of playing time under Thomas Tuchel. The striker was desperate for a return to Appiano Gentile and eventually got his wish last summer.

The 30-year spent the previous campaign on loan with the Nerazzurri and many expected him to remain on a permanent basis.

However, Inter later found out that the bomber was simultaneously negotiating with Juventus. The irritated Nerazzurri decided to cut all ties with the player who wasn’t even answering their calls.

Therefore, Inzaghi rues the unpleasant end of Lukaku’s story at Inter, especially after everything the club had done to bring him back.

“Concerning Lukaku’s situation, you all know what the club and I did last year to bring him back to us,” said Inzaghi during his post-match press conference (via FcInter1908) following the 1-1 draw against Al-Nassr in Osaka.

“He gave us a huge hand and received love from the whole Inter family, especially from the fans who are the most important part.

“Probably the story deserved a different ending, but I thank him for what he gave us last year. When he came back from his injury, he helped us achieve our goals.”

On another note, Inzaghi insists that Nicolo Barella and Davide Frattesi can fit in the same lineup.

“With Mkhitaryan unavailable today, we started with Barella and Frattesi, who can easily play together and I think they did well today.”
