Inter Milan are leading the race to sign Udinese midfielder Lazar Samardzic this summer.

This according to Italian broadcaster Calciomercato.com, who report that the Nerazzurri are moving quickly in talks to sign the 21-year-old.

Inter have already signed one midfielder this summer – Davide Frattesi.

However, the 23-year-old is not likely to be the only midfielder that the Nerazzurri sign. Roberto Gagliardini has left without being replace, and so a replacement will have to come in for the 29-year-old to ensure sufficient depth in the positions.

And widespread reports suggest that Inter’s intention is to sign a young player.

Rather than replacing Gagliardini with an experienced and low-cost signing, the Nerazzurri want to invest in a prospect with room to grow.

And all indications are that Samardzic is exactly the player who they have in mind.

Inter Milan Working To Advance In Samardzic Talks With Udinese

According to CM, the talks between Inter and Udinese are moving forward at pace.

The most recent contact, the outlet reports, was on Thursday.

Then, Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio met with his Friulani counterparts prior to his trip to Japan to meet up with the rest of the Nerazzurri players and staff.

The Nerazzurri executive held a further round of talks with Udinese.

There is still work to do for Inter if they’re to get a deal over the line.

However, CM reports, the Nerazzurri are by far the club who have gotten the closest to signing the German-born Serbian international.

CM also notes that Inter have shown a great willingness to offer a player in addition to a cash fee.

The likes of midfielder Giovanni Fabbian, midfielder Stefano Sensi, and striker Sebastiano Esposito have all been linked as possible counterparts in a deal for Samardzic.

In any event, the process of Inter’s pursuit of Samardzic is well underway.
