Bayern Munich are not ruling out keeping Inter Milan target Yann Sommer this summer.

This according to German newspaper TZ, via FCInterNews, who report that the Bavarians could decide to keep hold of the 34-year-old after all despite what has appeared to be a looming transfer to the Nerazzurri.

Sommer has looked to be Inter’s top target in goal for some time now.

The Nerazzurri have lined the Swiss international up as the replacement for Andre Onana since completing the sale of the Cameroonian to Manchester United.

Reports suggest that Inter’s plan is to sign Sommer as a short-term solution. The former Borussia Monchengladbach man could be the starter for a couple of seasons.

Then, the Nerazzurri would aim to also sign a younger keeper like Shakhtar Donetsk’s Anatoliy Trubin. That player would be the candidate to inherit the starting role in the longer term.

For a couple of weeks now, it has looked as though it would only be a matter of time before Inter sign Sommer.

However, according to TZ, that may not actually be the case.

Bayern May Decide To Keep Hold Of Yann Sommer Despite Inter Pressing

According to TZ, Bayern haven’t ruled out holding on to Sommer despite Inter’s pressing to sign him.

The Bavarians have been trying to sign a replacement for the 34-year-old. However, all of their attempts to do so far have failed, with the latest being a move for Brentford and Spain goalkeeper David Raya.

This has left Bayern scratching their heads a bit.

With Bayern captain Manuel Neuer’s fitness still a question mark due to a long recovery period from a broken leg, they could very well decide to keep Sommer for another season.

It’s not clear what the player’s response to this would be.

Reportedly, he has been pushing to make the move to Inter happen.

Moreover, Sommer has a release clause in his contract with Bayern worth €6 million.

Inter have not paid it to date. Partly this has been to give Bayern time to find a replacement. And partly it has been to secure a discounted fee of around €4.5 million.

However, if the Nerazzurri were to offer the release clause, it is not clear whether Bayern would be able to hold on to Sommer.
