Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian feels that it’s crucial that the Nerazzurri avoid the same mistakes as last season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the 33-year-old also gave his thoughts on his new teammate Davide Frattesi.

Last season, Inter enjoyed plenty of success.

The team won both domestic cups for the second season in a row. And, most eye-catchingly of all, the Nerazzuri played in the biggest match in European club football, the Champions League final.

However, in the league, things looked a lot less rosy.

A strong finish to the campaign spared Inter’s blushes a bit as the team recovered to at least secure a top four spot.

However, the fact that the Nerazzurri finished miles off of champions Napoli in the table was not good enough. Not for a team who expect to fight for the title until the end considering the quality that they possess.

Therefore, if Inter are to finally get back to winning, or even challenging for, the Serie A title, a much more consistent and ruthless approach in the league will be necessary.

Darmian: Inter Milan Must Avoid The Same Mistakes As Last Season

“We have about twenty days in which to make improvements,” Darmian said.

“We don’t want to make the same mistakes as last season,” he continued. “We want to get off to a fast start.”

Last campaign, Inter’s erratic first few weeks of the season were a key reason why they fell behind Napoli in the title race.

Of yesterday’s friendly win against Paris Saint-Germain, Darmian said “We had to suffer in the first fifteen minutes. They’re a quality team in possession.”

Of the raft of new signings Inter have made this summer, Darmian said “The base is still the same. We’re helping them fit in.”

And regarding Frattesi, he said that “We already know him well from the Italian national team.”

“The Italian team has been important to Inter for years,” he added.
