The 2022/23 season promised much for Inter Milan, but it ultimately ended in disappointment. The team finished third in Serie A and lost to Man City in the Champions League final.

Head Coach Simone Inzaghi will be looking to strengthen the squad with a view to improving results next season. It’s already been a busy transfer window for Inter, but there will surely be more to come.

The Deals Done So Far

Inter have been one of the busiest clubs in Europe since the summer window opened. There have been some new arrivals at the San Siro. On the other hand, the club has also offloaded some underperforming players from last season.

Inter have picked up an interesting free agent in Juan Cuadrado. The Colombian international spent eight years at Juventus. He’s in the veteran stages of his career now, but Cuadrado is a versatile player who can play on the wings or at full back.

Inter have signed French striker Marcus Thuram on a free transfer, It’s been a hectic period but Inter still has more work to do.

Key Targets For Inter Milan In The Ongoing Transfer Window

One player firmly under the radar at Inter is the USMNT striker Folarin Balogun. The 22-year-old is currently with Arsenal, but he’s been training away from the main squad and seems certain to move on.

Inter have expressed an interest in the player, but they could face competition from Balogun’s homeland. Major League Soccer teams are closing in on the end of the season, and many are looking to strengthen their rosters ahead of a final push.

FC Cincinnati are currently the best performing team in the league and are favorites to win the MLS Cup at the end of the campaign. Current MLS betting markets show Cincinnati in the clear. Los Angeles FC, Philadelphia Union and New England Revolution leading the chasing pack.

With a bit of extra firepower, any of those sides could close out a playoff place and go deep into the postseason. With 21 goals in 37 league games while on loan at Reims last season, Balogun looks a serious prospect.

Will Romelu Return To Inter Milan In This Transfer Window?

Striker Romelu Lukaku returned to parent club Chelsea when his loan deal was up at the end of the season. The Belgian international had made it clear that he wanted to come back to Inter.

However, Inter Milan decided to break all ties with the player. That’s because the Nerazzurri learned that the striker was a simultaneously negotiating with arch-rivals Juventus. He also wasn’t responding to calls from club officials.

Lukaku’s record of 14 goals in 37 games was modest when compared to his previous spell at the San Siro between 2019 and 2021.

Inter may be looking elsewhere, while the player has been linked with Juventus and Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

Strength In Defence

Inter fans might be particularly concerned over the sale of first choice goalkeeper Andre Onana to Manchester United. The Cameroon international commanded a high transfer fee, but does the Serie A club have enough cover in the existing squad?

Inter have already brought in Raffaele Di Gennaro who signed on a one-year deal from Gubbio. Di Gennaro started his long career at the San Siro in 2012, but few will see him as first choice.

Meanwhile, Inter have been linked with a number of alternative goalkeeping replacements.

Swiss international stopper Yann Sommer is believed to be the most likely target. Moreover, current Serie A keepers Emil Audero and Alessio Cragno are also in the frame.

Potential Inter Milan Targets In Current Transfer Window

While there are key positions still to be addressed, Inter Milan are believed to be chasing additional targets across all areas of the pitch.

Spanish international Alvaro Morata knows Italy well, having spent two seasons on loan at Juventus. He returned to parent club Atletico Madrid last year but has yet to settle, and it’s thought that a permanent transfer will be sought.

Atletico seem resigned to losing Morata, with Inter and Juventus believed to be chasing his signature.

Are Inter Milan Ready?

Inter Milan have already been busy in landing new arrivals, but there are more targets to chase. According to media reports, a striker is a priority while there is a need to replace the departed Andre Onana in goal.

Club officials will be working on those deals, but they have to move fast as the new season is rapidly approaching.

With one or two extra arrivals in place ahead of the new campaign, Inter may just be ready to mount a serious challenge for silverware.
