Ex-Nerazzurri President Massimo Moratti feels that Inter Milan are favourites for the Serie A title if they sign a striker this summer.
Speaking to Italian news outlet Numerodiez.com, the former President also gave his thoughts on goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
Inter are now less than two weeks away from kicking off their Serie A season. They’ll face Monza on Saturday, August 19.
The objective for the upcoming season appears to be clear – the Nerazzurri want to go after the Serie A title.
Inter did get their hands on the Scudetto during the 2020-21 season. Then, in the following campaign, they missed out on the title by the narrowest of margins to city rivals AC Miilan.
Last season, by contrast, the margin was not exactly a narrow one – Inter were miles behind champions Napoli in the table.
Even with reaching the Champions League final and winning both domestic cups, Inter’s league campaign was a big disappointment.
Therefore, returning to the top of the pile in Serie A will be the top priority.
And for his part, Moratti believes that his old team can do it. However, he expects that they’ll have to sort out one key position in the transfer market first.

Asked if he thinks Inter are favourites for the title, Moratti said “We still need to sign a striker. We’re still working on getting one in.”
“However, once we do sign one, I think we’re the favourites,” he continued.
Regarding new Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer, Moratti said that “Truthfully I can’t say that much about him. But I did see him some time ago and he looked very good.”
“So I think that it’s an excellent signing from our perspective.”
And regarding Lautaro Martinez becoming Inter captain, Moratti said that “He certainly has the character for it.”
He added that “Argentines have character and care about the work they do. So I think he’ll be an excellent captain of Inter.”
