Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are currently locked in frantic talks over the possible transfer of Benjamin Pavard.
With less than two weeks remaining before the transfer market closes its doors, the Nerazzurri are now desperate to secure the services of a competent defender.
During today’s pre-match press conference, Simone Inzaghi admitted the club’s dire need for a new centre-back. He also named Pavard as an objective for the club.
For his part, the 27-year-old still has a year on his contract with Bayern. But he’d reportedly like to end his Bavarian stint this summer and embark on a new adventure.
According to the Bild via FcInter1908, the two clubs are currently engaged in frantic negotiations.
Both sides are reportedly looking to finalize the operation as soon as possible. However, Inter’s initial offer fell way off the mark.
The Nerazzurri reportedly put 25 million euros on the plate while the reigning German champions are holding out for 40 million.
The Italians have reportedly raised their bid in recent hours in an attempt to bridge the gap between supply and demand.

On another interesting note, Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel dropped Pavard from his starting formation on Friday evening. Instead, Noussair Mazraoui started at right-back.
The French international has been a stalwart at the back since joining the club in 2019.
Yet, he remained on the bench for the entire match, watching his teammates pummel Werder Bremen with four unanswered goals in the Bundesliga opener.
This could be a major hint at Pavard’s future, suggesting that the versatile defender is heading towards the exit door.
