Italian journalist Ivan Zazzaroni feels that Inter Milan are no longer Serie A title favourites after weakening over the summer.

Writing in his predictions for the 2023-24 season published in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInter1908, Zazzaroni argued that the Nerazzurri haven’t done nearly enough to make up the gap on last season’s champions Napoli.

According to almost all betting markets, Inter are the team with the best chance of winning the Serie A title.

The strength of the Nerazzurri’s squad certainly has a lot to do with that.

Meanwhile, last season surely gave mixed indications regarding how strong Inter will be this time around.

Inter saved their best form for knockout competitions. They won both domestic cup competitions, and came tantalizingly close to winning the Champions League where they only narrowly lost to Manchester City in the final.

Meanwhile, in Serie A, it was truthfully a season to forget to Inter.

There were some positive moments and performances, particularly in the last six or seven weeks of the campaign.

But up to that point, Inter’s form was downright erratic.

Zazzaroni Disagrees That Inter Can Be Considered Favourites For Serie A Title

Inter have also had a summer of significant upheaval in the transfer market, certainly something that will play a factor in the upcoming season.

Most of the truly key players from last season remain. Stalwarts like Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni, and Lautaro Martinez have all racked up another year of experience.

But Inter have lost a double-digit number of senior players from last season’s squad.

And by the end of the transfer window it is all but certain they’ll make a double-digit number of signings.

And in the view of Zazzaroni, Inter’s summer window hasn’t been anywhere near convincing enough.

“Inter start from eighteen points behind Napoli,” the journalist observes.

“And considering that they’ve weakened over the summer, I don’t think they have Serie A title credentials.”
