The transfer of Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to Bayern Munich could be crucial to Benjamin Pavard joining Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
For now, Inter are waiting for Bayern to give the green light on Pavard’s transfer to the San Siro.
Naturally, patience is fraying a bit on the Nerazzurri’s end.
The season is already underway, with Inter playing their second Serie A match of the campaign on Sunday. Pavard will not be in their squad for that away match against Cagliari, as they’d hoped.
Moreover, the summer transfer window slams shut in just a few days.
Obviously a failure to sign a defender before the transfer deadline would be genuinely disastrous for the Nerazzurri. Therefore, they will be very anxious to add Pavard to their squad with time to spare.
The Corriere report that it is true that Inter are also assessing other options in case Pavard stays stuck in Munich.
Torino’s Perr Schuurs is at the top of the Nerazzurri’s list of contingency plans.
However, the newspaper expects, Schuurs is less of a backup option, and more of a genuine emergency consideration. The Plan A is still very much to sign Pavard.
Chalobah To Bayern Could Set Pavard To Inter In Motion
The last domino to fall, as has been the case for a while, has been Bayern signing a replacement for Pavard.
The German champions have stubbornly resisted giving the go-ahead to the Frenchman completing his move to Inter until they sign a replacement for him that they deem suitable.
And the Corriere report that Bayern are turning to a player who Inter themselves have been keen on for a while.
The Bavarians are going after Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
The 23-year-old Englishman does not appear to have much of a place in Chelsea’s project this season. There is no shortage of defensive depth ahead of him at Stamford Bridge.
Therefore, Bayern feel confident that they can seal a deal for Chalobah.
The Chelsea defender would be a suitable replacement for Pavard – both in his profile as a right-sided centre-back, and in his quality and top-level experience.
Therefore, Inter are still expecting to sign Pavard soon.
The Corriere report that Monday should likely be the day when the Nerazzurri finally land their man after holding off on signing a top-class defender all summer.
