Inter Milan are expecting to complete the signing of Benjamin Pavard on Monday.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri are calm about the 27-year-old’s transfer following a phone call with Bayern, and see it as only a matter of time.
Inter are naturally in a hurry to wrap up the signing of Pavard.
They had in fact hoped to have the Frenchman at the disposal of Simone Inzaghi already.
There are a couple reasons for this. Firstly, the fact that the transfer window slams shut in less than a week has turned up the pressure.
And secondly, Inter and Inzaghi are impatient to seal the deal for Pavard now that the season is well underway.
The Nerazzurri will need defensive reinforcements as soon as they can get them. Fitness problems with Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian mean that Inzaghi’s team are a bit thin on the ground.
And now it looks clear that Pavard won’t be part of Inter’s team to face Cagliari on Monday as they’d hoped.
However, in spite of this the Gazzetta reports that it won’t be much longer.
Inter Milan Optimistic About Signing Benjamin Pavard Soon After Bayern Phone Call
According to the Gazzetta, Inter CEO Beppe Marotta called his Bayern counterpart Jan-Christian Deesen.
And the contact between the two executives was a positive, calm one. Marotta received the reassurances that he was after that the transfer is not stalling despite delays.
The delays, as ever, concern Bayern’s search for a replacement.
The German champions now appear to have three main names on their shortlist of possible replacements for Pavard.
These are Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida, and Southampton’s Armel Bella-Kotchap.
And despite the fact that Bayern haven’t signed anyone yet – therefore releasing Pavard – they will.
After the most recent call, the Gazzetta report, Inter are confident that they’ll get their man. And with plenty of time to spare.
Pavard should finally travel to Italy on Monday.
Therefore, the Frenchman should be able to start training in view of next weekend’s Serie A clash with Fiorentina.
