Inter Milan “sent a message” in the Serie A title race with not just the scoreline but also the manner of their 2-0 win over Cagliari.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper suggest that the Nerazzurri’s message was as much to themselves as it was to their rivals.

Inter already knew that they needed three points yesterday to respond to their major Serie A title rivals.

Whilst Juventus had dropped points against Bologna, AC Milan and Napoli made no mistake whatsoever.

Both the Rossoneri and the Partenopei made it six points from six in their second matches of the season. Therefore, Inter would have to follow suit or else find themselves in the chasing pack early on.

And that’s exactly what they did.

Inter Performance & Result Vs Cagliari A Serie A Title Message

Tuttosport emphasize that Inter didn’t just send a message by winning against Cagliari.

More than the three points, the Nerazzurri gave a demonstration of the kind of performance that can be repeatable over a full season.

Inter held onto the ball in midfield well, but were not slow-paced or conservative with possession. The Nerazzurri would always look to find openings once they had the ball.

And with the movement, pace, and quick touches of strike pair Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, and of wingbacks Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries, the Nerazzurri were able to fashion quite a few opportunities right away.

And at the other end of the pitch, Inter held out for another clean sheet.

Inter Milan are yet to concede a goal in Serie A.

This is certainly something they’ll want to prove in the league after looking leaky at times last season. To themselves as much as to any of their title rivals.

In the second half Cagliari pushed hard for a goal back, and caused the Nerazzurri some uncomfortable moments.

But goalkeeper Yann Sommer and defenders Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni in particular were resolute in their resistance.
