Lautaro Martinez has earned plaudits as Inter Milan’s man of the match in their 2-0 Serie A win away to Cagliari.

Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport named the Argentine as the Nerazzurri’s outstanding player against the Rossoblu in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

Martinez did not quite manage to equal his two-goal tally from Inter’s opener against Monza yesterday.

However, the Argentine did get himself onto the scoresheet.

After Denzel Dumfries had opened the scoring early on, Martinez found Inter’s second. He showed impressive skill and ball control to manoeuvre a Federico Dimarco delivery past a couple Cagliari defenders, then slotted home with a fine finish.

Moreover, Martinez’s goal was not all he contributed.

The 26-year-old also led the team from the front with his linkup play and defensive workrate.

For the Gazzetta, Martinez was the player who best embodied another positive display for Inter. He earned a 7/10 grade for his performance.

Not Just Lautaro Martinez – Marcus Thuram Also Shone For Inter Vs Cagliari

The Gazzetta also reserves some praise for Martinez’s strike partner on the night Marcus Thuram.

The Frenchman earned a 7/10 score for his display like Martinez.

Thuram may not have found the back of the net. However, he produced an excellent assist to help Dumfries break the deadlock.

And like Martinez, Thuram’s movement and fine touches and quick passes were key to stitching together Inter’s attack.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi also earned a 7/10 grade for masterminding the display.

The coach got the balance right with both his starting eleven and his substitutions.

Meanwhile, Yann Sommer and Stefan de Vrij received 6.5/10 grades for their role in preserving another clean sheet.

Hakan Calhanoglu also earned the 6.5/10 score for a strong performance in the middle of the park. And wingbacks Dumfries, Dimarco, and Juan Cuadrado all got that grade as well.
