Inter Milan are thinking about a last-minute move to sign 20-year-old Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Frenchman is the one midfielder who the Nerazzurri would consider to be a serious target in the last couple days of the summer transfer window, whilst they have rejected other players offered to them.

Inter are on the verge of completing a deal to sign defender Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich.

This will in all likelihood be the Nerazzurri’s final piece of business during the summer transfer window.

However, if Inter were to dip into the market, it’s fairly clear what kind of player they’d go after – a midfielder.

After the collapse of Inter’s move to sign Lazar Samardzic from Udinese earlier this month, they have been left wondering about how to deal with the “sixth” spot in their midfield depth chart.

It now looks clear that Inter’s approach will be to keep Stefano Sensi in the squad. But there is one midfielder who Inter do still see as a real target, if they can get him.

Inter Milan Reject Offers To Sign Midfielders

According to FCIN, Inter have no interest in signing any players that would simply be opportunistic free transfer, low-cost, or loan signings.

In that case, they would prefer to simply stick with Sensi.

If Inter were to sign a midfielder now, it would be the same kind of deal as Samardzic was to be. A young player and an investment for the future rather than just a short-term solution.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri have rejected a few players who agents have proposed to them.

For example, there has been Nottingham Forest midfielder Remo Freuler. The Swiss had been on the Nerazzurri’s radar when he was an Atalanta player, but they no longer see him as a target.

Another player who Inter have shown an interest in in the past but have rejected this summer is Salernitana, and former Spezia, midfielder Giulio Maggiore.

Meanwhile, FCIN report that Inter have turned down the possible chance to sign former Fiorentina, Arsenal, and Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira.

The reason for this is that the Uruguayn is a deep-lying playmaker. Inter don’t want to block the path to first-team opportunities for Kristjan Asllani.

And then Fiorentina midfielder Antonin Barak has also been offered to Inter.

However, the Czech international is not really the kind of profile who Inter would want to sign.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi would still like to reinforce the midfield with a tall, physically strong midfielder. That’s not the kind of player Barak is.

Inter Could Try For Last-Minute Swoop For Salzburg Starlet Lucas Gourna-Douath

However, young French Salzburg midfielder Gourna-Douath does check the Nerazzurri’s boxes.

The former Saint-Etienne midfielder is a physical, defensively sound midfielder.

He is also quite young, and would certainly have prospects to grow and improve.

Inter saw Gourna-Douath in action during a recently friendly match this summer. The 20-year-old impressed them.

However. Gourna-Douath would cost €15-18 million.

Therefore, this is hardly the kind of cash outlay the Nerazzurri can make at this stage of the transfer window.

But if an initial loan deal were to be possible, they would consider making a surprise move.
