Italian Serie A side Inter Milan have recently expressed an interest in signing a new defender, one of which is 24-year-old Japhet Tanganga, who currently plays for English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Here is a closer look at what we know so far about Inter Milan’s potential new signing.

Who is Japhet Tanganga?

Japhet Tanganga is a 24-year-old men’s professional football player who is currently signed for EPL side Tottenham Hotspur. The English right-footed defender was born in Hackney, London, in March 1999, and he wears the number 25 shirt for Spurs.

He joined the Spurs youth club in 2009 before making his first senior team appearance in September 2019 in an EFL cup match against Colchester United. Just four months later, in January 2020, he made his first full debut in the Premier League against Liverpool.

His contract was extended to 2025, but he’s unlikely to stay at the club until this time after missing many games due to injury.

In the games he has played, he has had several impressive performances. He has also represented his country at the U16, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U20 levels.

He’s regarded by many as a versatile defender and a solid right back, and although he is eligible to represent DR Congo, he has a desire to play for the England men’s senior team.

Will Inter Milan Be Better With Japhet Tanganga?

There’s no doubt that Inter Milan (Internazionale as they are formally known, or the Nerazzurri as fans fondly refer to them) need to strengthen their defense to improve their live soccer scores and keep their goal deficit this season down to a minimum.

According to reports, Inter Milan may attempt to sign Tanganga on loan before the end of the summer transfer window, along with the option to buy added into the deal.

The club failed to sign Lazar Samardzic, and they have more than enough cash to purchase the Spurs defender. However, there’s no guarantee that they will be able to sign him.

If they are successful and manage to sign Tanganga, it will be seen as a good signing, and it may help Inter go all the way.

According to other reports, EPL side Everton are also looking to sign him, but he has already expressed his desire to play in Serie A with Inter. Only time will tell if the Serie A side can get their man or not.

Since his absence as a first-team player due to the injuries he picked up, he has gone down the pecking order at Tottenham, and they are ready to let him leave. In other words, Spurs won’t miss him wherever he goes.

Where Are Spurs In The League Now?

Once again, Spurs have gotten off to a great start in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign. They are currently, at the time of writing, in third place with 7 points after just three games played.

In their opening game of the season, they traveled away to play Brentford in a game that ended 2-2. They beat Manchester United 2-0 at home, and then in their next game, they beat Bournemouth 2-0.

Their next fixture was an EFL Cup second-round match against Fulham, which they ended up losing 5-3 on penalties.

Can Spurs Win The League, And Who Do They Play In Their Next Few Fixtures?

On Saturday, September 2nd, Spurs play Burnley away, and then on September 16th, they play at home to Sheffield United. They are currently priced at 18/1 to win the Premier League, making them only the sixth odds-on favorite team to win the league outright.

In comparison, Chelsea are currently priced at 8/1. You then have Newcastle United at 11/2, Manchester United at 4/1, and Liverpool at 13/4. The bookies’ odds-on favorites, Manchester City, are currently priced at 7/4.
