Italian agent Oscar Damiani feels that while Benjamin Pavard can give a lot to Inter Milan, he’s not quite at the truly elite level.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews, Damiani weighed in on the Nerazzurri’s new defensive signing.
Pavard is arguably Inter’s most high-profile signing of the entire summer.
The Frenchman is the player who the Nerazzurri have settled on to replace Milan Skriniar.
Inter have reportedly been trying to sign Pavard for eight months. They see the 27-year-old former Stuttgart defender as ideal for Simone Inzaghi’s style of play.
Moreover, Inter’s interest in Pavard is not just based on his profile or stylistic fit.
The Frenchman also arrives as a player with a big reputation, in his prime.
Pavard has won the World Cup with France in 2018. He has also won four Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Bayern Munich, one of the biggest clubs in European football.
Therefore, it is hardly surprising that many see Pavard as a real statement signing for Inter to cap off their summer transfer window.
Damiani Says Benjamin Pavard Not A “Truly Top-Level Player”
Pavard leaves Bayern with less than twelve months to go on his contract with the German champions.
The Frenchman had shown a great determination to make the move. He even went as far as to skip training sessions to put pressure on Bayern to make sure the move to Inter happened.
Reports even suggest that Pavard has agitated to leave Bayern as far back as last summer.
The former Stuttgart defender was reportedly unhappy with his tactical role at the Allianz Arena, where he ended up playing as a right-back as often as he did in the centre of defense.
Damiani gave the view that “Pavard is not a truly top-level player. Otherwise he wouldn’t have left Bayern.”
“But he’s still a good player,” the agent added.
“He’ll give his contribution to Inter for sure,” Damiran argued.
“But more as an overall part of their squad.”
