Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali is reportedly working on convincing Stefano Sensi of a return to the Mapei Stadium.

The Urbino native enjoyed an impressive stint at Sassuolo before earning a transfer to Inter Milan in 2019.

Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, recurring injury problems derailed his momentum at Appiano Gentile.

The midfielder spent the last 18 months on loan between Sampdoria and Monza. He rejoined Simone Inzaghi’s ranks in the summer while delivering some decent displays in pre-season.

However, the amount of playing time he’ll receive at Inter this season remains uncertain, especially with Davy Klaassen on the verge of joining the club.

Therefore, Sassuolo CEO Carnevali is trying to seize the opportunity and lure back the player.

According to FcInterNews, the Neroverdi are now working on convincing the central midfielder.

Nevertheless, the source claims that the Italian player and his agent Beppe Riso remain hesitant.

Even though Klaassen is about to join the Nerazzurri and Kristjan Asllani has decided to stay, Sensi is still willing to linger at the club and fight for a spot.

This would leave Inzaghi with a crowded midfield department, with seven first-team players vying for three starting spots.

For his part, Sensi will be looking to stay fit and climb his way in the pecking order.
