Inter Milan and AC Milan have both come in for significant praise for the business they’ve done during the summer transfer window.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, give both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri scored of 8/10 for their activity in the transfer market over the past few months.

Now the summer transfer window is all in the past.

Teams in Serie A cannot sign new players until the beginning of January. And unless they are to sell to one of the leagues in which the window remains open, there will be no more departures either.

Therefore, it has become possible to take a full view on the transfer windows that different teams in the Italia top flight have had.

And in the view of the Gazzetta, both teams on opposite side of the Milan derby divide have done very well.

Inter & AC Milan Both Lauded For Summer Transfer Windows

Both Inter and Milan have made big sales this summer.

The Nerazzurri agreed a big money deal with Manchester United for goalkeeper Andre Onana. Meanwhile their city rivals also sold a key man from last season to the Premier League – Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Inter also sold Marcelo Brozovic to Al-Nassr, and lost Milan Skriniar and Edin Dzeko on free transfers.

And Milan lost Brahim Diaz who returned to Real Madrid from loan. The Rossoneri also loaned out last summer’s big money signing Charles De Ketelaere. He joins Atalanta after an underwhelming campaign at the San Siro.

But both Inter and Milan worked extensively to replace the players who left.

In the Nerazzurri’s case, twelve players headed for the exit door. And coming the other way, Inter made twelve signings.

Arguably, the most high-profile have been Marcus Thuram, Davide Frattesi, and Benjamin Pavard.

The latter in particular looks like a statement of intent from Inter. The Nerazzurri sign a peak-age player from European giants Bayern Munich, getting their man and replacing Milan Skriniar.

Meanwhile, Milan have made big signings such as Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea, Tijani Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar, and Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal.

When all is said and done, Inter have shaken up their squad a lot. The end result is a mix of youth and experience, whilst most of last season’s key men have been retained.

The same, broadly speaking, is true of Milan.

In the view of the Gazzetta, both have done some of the best summer transfer business in Serie A. Both have given themselves a strong platform on which to try and dethrone Napoli for the Serie A title.
