Inter Milan will owe Ajax a percentage of any future transfer fee that they receive for the sale of midfielder Davy Klaassen.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report the resale percentage as 20%.

Inter completed the signing of midfielder Klaassen from Ajax on deadline day for the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman’s arrival came as something of a surprise.

Reports during the final couple of days before the window closed suggested that Inter wanted to sign a midfielder. They had already signed Davide Frattesi and brought back Stefano Sensi.

However, the feeling was that more work was necessary to complete the squad in the eyes of the Inter directors.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri scanned the market for last-minute opportunities. And they found one, in the form of former Everton and Werder Bremen midfielder Klaassen.

A key aspect of Inter being able to quickly sign Klaassen was that they were able to agree a free transfer with Ajax.

The Nerazzurri, whose financial restrictions are no secret, were hardly able to invest big in a midfield signing after a summer in which they had already spent on other areas.

Therefore, the club’s aim was to bring in a loan or free transfer signing.

30-year-old Dutch international Klaassen still had one year left to run on his contract with Ajax. His deal expired at the end of June 2024.

However, Inter and Klaassen’s agents convinced the Amsterdam giants to allow the midfielder to leave for free.

This does not mean, however, that Ajax will not receive any compensation for Klaassen, Tuttosport reports.

But it won’t come in the form of any fee up front.

Rather, Inter will owe the Dutch side a portion of any future transfer fee they receive for Klaassen.

20%, to be exact.

The Dutchman has signed a one-year contract with the Nerazzurri. That also includes the option for an additional season.
