Lautaro Martinez feels that since his arrival at Inter Milan, he’s been treated “like a son” by everyone around the club.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri captain also looked ahead to the Milan derby.

Martinez has become something of a talisman for Inter in the past few seasons.

When the Argentine arrived from Racing Club, he was not initially a key figure in the team. Rather, aged 20, Martinez took time to bed in and find his feet.

But in each season that he’s been at the Nerazzurri’s Martinez’s centrality to the team has grown.

And this season, the 26-year-old has inherited the captain’s armband at Inter from Samir Handanovic.

Martinez has repaid Inter’s faith early on in the season. He has put in outstanding performances in the team’s first three Serie A matches, scoring five of their eight goals so far.

Lautaro Martinez: Inter Milan Have Treated Me “Like A Son”

Martinez said of Inter that “They gave me the opportunity to come to Europe.”

“From the first day that I was here, they’ve treated me like a son. Always good. And that’s important for me”.

“I’m happy with the start to the season,” Martinez said.

“We’re working hard, and the results are the result of all the work we put in day to day.”

“Those of us who’ve been here the longest are working to help the new signings integrate,” he continued.

Of his new strike partner Marcus Thuram, Martinez said that “He’s a great player.”

He called the Frenchman “A hardworking guy who has a great desire to learn.”

“I’m happy with him because he’s doing an extraordinary job in both phases of play.”

“He always wants to improve and that’s important,” Martinez said of Thuram.

And of city rivals Milan, Martinez said that “They’re a strong team with a lot of quality. We respect them.”

“And then it’s a derby, always a special match. We’ll try to bring it home.”

“It’s always an important match for this city and its people,” the Inter captain noted of the derby.
