Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of teenage Spanish midfielder Dilan Zarate.

The club have officially announced that the 16-year-old will join their youth academy system, as reported by FCInter1908.

Young midfielder Zarate was born in Spain and has Spanish citizenship. However, the teenager is eligible to represent both the Spanish national team as well as the Colombian national team.

Last summer, Zarate made the move from the youth team of Cornella to that of Girona. The Catalan side are owned by City Football Group, the same ownership as Premier League giants Manchester City among other teams.

Then this summer, the 16-year-old moved up to Girona’s Under-19 team.

However, this summer, he has switched clubs. Inter have had their eye on Zarate, working this summer to bring him into their youth academy system.

And now, the Nerazzurri have gotten the signing over the line – Zarate has put pen to paper. He joins Inter’s youth sector, although he has not signed a senior professional contract.

Inter Milan Confirm Signing Of Young Spanish/Colombian Midfielder Dylan Zarate From Girona

Zarate will not immediately become a part of Inter’s Primavera squad, let alone join with the senior squad.

The young midfielder turned sixteen in January. Therefore, the aim will still be to develop him at various youth team levels.

Reports suggest that Zarate will immediately join up with Inter’s Under-17 team.

However, the Spanish/Colombian midfielder could also receive call-ups for the Nerazzurri’s Under-18 team.

Zarate’s primary position is playing in defensive midfield. Therefore, that is the role that the teenage midfield will look to grow into.

Over the coming seasons, it will remain to be seen whether Zarate can make the step up to higher youth team levels at Inter.

He could aim to play under Inter Primavera (Under-19 level) coach Christian Chivu eventually.
