AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has reportedly avoided a serious injury and will be hoping to recover in time for the showdown against Inter Milan.
The 36-year-old started for France in Thursday’s Euro 2024 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.
The veteran striker had to leave the pitch in the middle of the first half after sustaining a knock.
He left his place for Inter striker Marcus Thuram. The latter took the opportunity to open his account for Les Bleus. The 25-year-old secured France’s win by scoring the second goal in the 2-0 win at Le Parc des Princes.
As for Giroud, test results revealed that the player didn’t suffer an ankle injury, explains L’Equipe via FcInterNews.
Nevertheless, the striker, in agreement with France coach Didier Deschamps, opted to return to Milano.
He will take the opportunity to rest and try to make a full recovery ahead of next Saturday’s Derby della Madonnina.

Therefore, Giroud wouldn’t want to miss this showdown. The same goes for Milan coach Stefano Pioli who will be desperate to have his main striker at his disposal for the grand occasion.
