Lecce coach Roberto D’Aversa feels that Inter Milan are the Italian team who are best-equipped to go deep in the Champions League.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the coach named the Nerazzurri as the team from Serie A who could have an impact in Europe’s top club competition this season.
Last time around, Inter actually reached the Champions League final.
It was to end in heartbreak for the Nerazzurri. They lost the final 0-1 to Manchester City.
However, it was hardly a comprehensive defeat, and in truth by most metrics Inter could have done a lot better. The Nerazzurri even had several good chances to equalize late in the contest.
Obviously, going as far as reaching the Champions League final again is an ambitious goal.
Even for the elite teams, getting that far requires a bit of luck as well as perfect timing of form.
However, at the same time, even without necessarily making the final again, Inter will certainly be hoping that they can show that last season’s run in the Champions League was no fluke by at least leaving their mark this time around.

As far as Italian teams in the Champions League this season, D’Aversa said that “Inter are the team that are best set up to compete.”
“They demonstrated that last season in a final that they didn’t deserve to lose,” he continued.
The former Parma and Sampdoria coach added, “I believe Inter are the team who can aspire towards a deep run.”
He then added that “The big favourites are the usual suspects. Manchester City and Real Madrid.”
