Dynamo Kiev and former Nerazzurri coach Mircea Lucescu is hoping that Inter Milan win in the Milan derby this weekend.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the Romanian tactician also gave his thoughts on Inter and AC Milan in the Serie A title race.

Lucescu never quite found the right circumstances at Inter.

The Romanian only took charge of seventeen matches for the Nerazzurri in the late 1990s.

This was not the stint in which Lucescu made the biggest impact. Rather, the current Dynamo coach has arguably done his most impressive work in Ukraine with Dynamo and with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Lucescu has also had memorable stints in Russia and Turkey as well as in his native Romania. The 78-year-old also coached Pisa, Reggiana, and Brescia in Italy.

But in spite of the brevity of Lucescu’s time in charge of Inter, the Romanian still counts himself as a supporter of the Nerazzurri.

And he’ll be paying attention to the upcoming derby between the Nerazzurri and AC Milan.

Mircea Lucescu: Hoping Inter Milan Beat AC Milan In The Derby

Of his continuing career in football even well into his 70s, Lucescu said that “It’s my passion, my world.”

“I can’t tear myself away from my players,” he admitted.

“I still feel great satisfaction in developing young prospective talents, like when I was in Italy at Pisa, especially at Brescia, at Reggiana, and finally at Inter.”

Lucescu said that “Your country is forever in my heart.”

Asked whether he still feels an affinity with Inter, Lucescu replied “Absolutely, yes. It’s a sentimental thing for me.”

“I hope that they win,” Lucescu said of the derby. “But I really like Milan’s project. By selling Tonali, they’ve managed to make the team even more competitive than last season.”

“At the moment I see the two Milan teams as a step above the other teams,” Lucescu said of the Serie A title race.

“But it’s a long season…”
